HomeFile Preparation Guide

Preparing files for The Print Station

Send the highest-quality original artwork you have, along with the product, finished size, quantity, and any finishing instructions. We review files before production and will contact you if something needs attention. Your product template takes priority over these general guidelines.

Formats and fonts

A print-ready PDF is preferred for most business cards, flyers, brochures, labels, and packaging. We can also review AI, EPS, PSD, JPG, and PNG. Outline fonts in vector artwork and embed linked images. Keep spot colors, cut lines, white ink, and special finishes clearly labeled on separate layers.

Resolution and size

Build your file at its intended print size. For pieces viewed up close, aim for images around 300 PPI at final size. Large banners and signs may need a different resolution, so use the product template or ask us before exporting. Enlarging a small web image or changing only its DPI setting does not add detail.

Bleed, trim, and safe area

For products cut to size, extend backgrounds and edge-to-edge images 1/8 inch past each trim edge unless the template specifies otherwise. Keep text, logos, and other essential details within the template’s safe area. Avoid thin borders near the cut edge because normal trimming variation can make them look uneven.

Color and finishing

CMYK is preferred for standard full-color paper printing. Screen colors may differ from finished print. If a brand color is critical, send a reference and ask about a sample or physical proof. Large-format, DTF, UV DTF, and specialty jobs can require different file setup; identify the process when submitting artwork.

Two-sided artwork and proofs

Name front and back files clearly and check their orientation. Review spelling, dimensions, placement, colors, and finishing on the proof. Production uses the approved version. If you request changes, check the revised proof before it prints.
